The Importance of Net Zero Businesses in the Ceramics Sector
The UK Ceramics industry is a diverse carbon intensive sector supplying the Construction Industry directly with brick, tiles, blocks, clay pipes and indirectly supplying the glass, steel and cement industries with high temperature refractory linings, and advanced ceramic materials.
To decarbonise it requires leadership within its own businesses and with its unique cross sector position has the advantage of collaborating with the other energy intensive sectors. By collaborating to share the knowledge and experience of improving heat intensive process efficiencies, switching to zero carbon electrification, hydrogen fuel burners and carbon capture, the UK Ceramics sector has a leading role to play.
A net zero carbon future can only be achieved by the leadership and commitment of advocates both working in the sector businesses, associations and suppliers supporting the sector with areas of expertise. These Advocates must work at the highest organisational level and engage staff at all levels to implement and demonstrate progress. Collaborating with customers and suppliers to reduce carbon in the supply chain, whilst delivering and reporting on their own organisation’s continuous improvement.
